Actual documentation 5.10.14 from forthcoming Re-Licked album by Williamson with proper studio recording of the Iggy and The Stooges songs written as followup to Raw Power, performed live in 1973-4, bootlegged endlessly then lost when Columbia dropped the band. Guest vocalists recruited by Williamson have proven amazing: Mark Lanegan of Screaming Trees and beyond, Allison Mosshart of The Kills and Dead Weather, Lisa Kekaula of The Bellrays and Lisa & The Lips (with voice sufficiently volcanic to place her as vocalist for the MC5 reunion DKT,) Mario Cuomo of The Orwells, Joe Cardamone of The Icarus Line, Petra Haden of Petra Haden sings The Who Sell Out!, Jello Biafra, Carolyn Wonderland, Simone Marie Butler, bassist of Primal Scream, and many more yet to be disclosed. Power drummer Michael Urbano of Smashmouth was a revelation.
I photographed many of the L.A. recording sessions and helped brainstorm the video shot by D'Allessandro and James Stolz. Details, as they say, to come. Teaser hint: Ms. Mosshart's solo turn will strike all as an about-face as emotionally chilling as Marianne Faithfull's Broken English was when it was new...
